I'm not sure what the collective noun for a group of writers from Bishop Auckland is, but they certainly seem to be a talented lot in that corner of the North East and we have just recorded some of their work for you to hear.:

listenupnorth.com favourite Wendy Robertson, an extract from Paulie's Web, her latest book now available on Kindle.

Then we have a steamy extract from The Orchid House, written & read to you by seasoned writer Avril Joy

On a very different note, John Donoghue brings you Police, Action & 999 a humourous account of the trials and tribulations of a front line Police Officer.

And finally from Bishop Auckland, David Wright reads his beautifully written & moving short story Home Tomorrow.

On the theme of water: a beautiful short story The Princess of Felling - River Tyne Memories by Elaine Cusack and an exquisite documentary film 150 by Jan Cawood on the restoration of the Saltburn-by the-Sea cliff lift.

gordon_macpherson_thumbnail_100_hjwoodI am really pleased to feature extracts from Fight to the Finish (North East Community Projects), the writings and life story of the late Gordon MacPherson, Durham Miner from Easington Colliery.  With extracts from the book read by his daughter Heather and son Gordon, Fight to the Finish provides us with a social history of  community and wider world through the eyes of a working class man in the 20th century.

The recording of extracts from Fight to the Finish is sponsored by Seaham Safety Services Ltd

We are jetsetting in AJ Kirby's drama History and her Story.  History lecturer, Dr Colin Ackers, awaits at airport arrivals for his wife. Then he sees Abigail, a former student, wheeling her suitcase towards him. Old feelings resurface once more as Colin and Abigail are thrown back to 1984 and reflect on what might have been.

Inspiration from amazing Northumberland as we bring you another short story Low Newton Beach from the pen of Simon van der Velde and poems about The Cheviot Hills (The Cheviot: October, The Border Line, Chew Green) from Geoff Holland.

A selection of poetry from Tyneside writers Geoff Holland and John Oliver taking their inspiration from Tyneside landmarks, culture and boyhood memories.  Links to their work can be found on their profile page.

Allison Davies reads her poem Hattiban inspires by a motobike ride in the Himalayan foothills and Tinned Pie a short story through the eyes of a child who lives with a mother with OCD.
