Audio Guide
MP3
All the files on our site are in MP3 format. MP3 is a digital music format which allows CD tracks to be reduced to around a tenth of their normal size without a significant loss of quality. This means that for the first time it's become practical to make music available for download over the internet as download times have been drastically cut. MP3 strips out a lot of the information recorded in a song that our ears aren't able to hear and uses complicated maths to reduce the file size.
How to Play MP3
Dont worry if you don't have suitable software on your PC, you can still listen to all of our audio files using our online MP3 player. All you have to do is click the play button on our MP3 player (see graphic below) and the audio will be streamed live over your Internet connection.

How fast does by Internet connction need to be to listen to your audio files?
Most of our files are encoed at 64kbps, and some at 96kbps. This strikes a good balance between audio quality and size of download. Nearly all users, apart from people who are still on dial-up internet should be able to listen to our streaming audio files (so I guess we provide audio files for audiophiles!).
Can I download the files to my computer?
Yes, of course. Within our spoken word section every audio file has the option of being downloaded. We've tried to make it as simple as possible, so just click the link that says Click here to download MP3 file to your PC and follow the instructions on the prompt to "save" the file to your PC.
