The Easington Writers

Introduction

seaside laneluncom

It has been a privilege to record the work of The Easington Writers.  Influenced by a strong mining community, their short stories, accounts and poetry chart their history and culture from Viking times, through pit disaster and closure to what the present day holds for them.  Their words are uplifting: a strong voice for the future.

Easington Writers came into existence in March 2007 after a chance meeting between the two founder members Mary N Bell and Chris Robinson.

We are a group of local people of varying writing stages and styles with a shared common interest. We meet weekly at Easington Social Welfare Hall to exchange information, learn and practise new skills and support each other.  We have achieved many things over the past few years including appearances in books such as Through Our Eyes and on websites such as www.cultureshock.org.uk and we have also published our own book Shrugging Off the Wind after being successful in applying for lotto funding.

We have worked in collaboration with many writers including Andy Croft, Anna Woodford, Rachel Cochrane and Wendy Robertson.  We are always challenging ourselves and often invite writers to do workshops at our meetings and are continuously looking for the next big project.
