Newcastle Winter Book Festival 2011
I love the Newcastle Winter Book Festival; in its 2nd year, it represents an eclectic mix of the current literature scene and writers but without the stuffiness or elitism associated with many book-related events. listenupnorth.com was very excited to be asked to interview & record some of their leading authors. Thanks to Sharon Reeve and staff at Newcastle City Library for their assistance.
The Newcastle Winter Book Festival was run in conjunction Newcastle Libraries with a series of diverse events taking place at locations thoughout Newcastle and featuring the best around in current UK literature. We are very privileged to bring you interviews with 3 of the most prominent authors from the festival:
David Almond - Born in Newcastle, David grew up in Felling and now lives near Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. his first novel Skellig was published in 1998 and won the Whitbread Children's Award and Carnegie Medal. Successive books have earned him further recognition including in 2010 the Hans Christian Author Award, the world's most prestigious prize in children's literature. David's latest books are My Name is Mina and his first adult book The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean.
